Michèle Saint-Michel

Experiential Designer • Curator • Filmmaker
Based in Brooklyn, NY

I design experiences that stay with people long after they’ve walked away.
Across exhibitions, live events, publications, and immersive installations, I build conceptually rigorous, emotionally resonant environments. Whether I’m producing a hybrid show, curating a film program, or shaping a poetic publication, I work at the intersection of embodiment, ecology, and experimental media.

About Michèle Saint-Michel

Michèle Saint-Michel is an experiential producer and curator with a decade of cross-disciplinary experience creating immersive, multi-format cultural projects. Her work integrates film, performance, spatial design, and publishing—often drawing on somatic methodologies and poetic frameworks to shape how audiences move, sense, and remember.

Saint-Michel has curated and produced major hybrid exhibitions such as Between a Frame and a Soft Place and Quantum Intimacies at Millennium Film Workshop, coordinating teams of over 65 artists across screening series, performance programs, and gallery installations. She also co-produced Taste the Difference, a London-based group show in collaboration with Hypha Studios and the Loess Collective.

With a background in editorial strategy and live show direction, she manages concept-to-execution workflows—including production timelines, cue-based run-of-shows, install logistics, permitting, and audience experience. As founder of Bad Saturn Media, she also leads the development of poetic and artistic publications that extend her curatorial vision across formats.

Statement

Experiential design is not just what people see—it’s what they sense in their bones, their breath, their silence. My work emerges from the belief that environments can be tender technologies: capable of disarming the nervous system, re-patterning perception, and cultivating new relational ethics.

Beginning with poetic fragments or gestures, I construct intermedia landscapes—across space, time, and form. These include: curated film programs, ephemeral installations, sound-led rituals, zines-as-portals, and hybrid events where the audience becomes a participant.

I treat curating as a form of experiential composition—part choreography, part system design. I begin with textures, affective cues, or unresolved questions and translate them into spatial, temporal, and narrative forms. My exhibitions are built for resonance, not just reception. They ask: What does this experience do to the body? What is allowed to emerge?

My Approach at a Glance

  • Experiential producer managing cross-functional projects with creative precision
From initial concept to post-event reconciliation, I produce complex activations that span hybrid screenings, gallery installations, print publishing, and performance. I’ve led projects for institutions and independent platforms alike, managing budgets, permits, and crews across the U.S. and UK.

  • Curator of multi-format, hybrid exhibitions
At Millennium Film Workshop, I’ve curated multi-day exhibitions integrating screenings, poetry readings, and live performance. I prioritize curation as a spatial and sensory practice—building formats that balance intimacy and scale, coherence and risk.

  • Designer of emotional environments and spatial narratives
My install work often incorporates preserved organic material, choreographic logic, poetic structures, and sound design—constructing layered atmospheres that activate perception and memory.

  • Publication strategist and editor for artbooks and zines
As Managing Editor of Bad Saturn Media, I lead collaborative editorial and production pipelines. My books and zines often accompany exhibitions, building extended narrative space across media.

  • Systems-thinker committed to care-centered cultural production
I build workflows and team cultures that honor sustainability, clarity, and access. My work is informed by disability justice, feminist methodology, and belief in the transformative power of well-produced, emotionally intelligent events.

I believe that events can be living systems—and that careful production is a form of care itself. I build conditions for emergence, not just execution.
