A new season is beginning to take shape, and I wanted you to have the first look. Studio Saint-Michel has been forming quietly for months, and today marks its arrival. For now, the Studio is a seed, a place for artists to gather, develop, experiment, and eventually to connect with collaborators who value thoughtful, sensorial, boundary-pushing work.
This update brings you into that beginning with new programming, two open calls, and the first exhibition announcement for 2026.
Open Call: Soft Map of NYC
Soft Map of NYC invites artists across the five boroughs to share images shaped by feeling rather than documentation. Twenty-six artists will form the 2026 cohort, each working with Polaroid film to map the emotional topographies of the city.
Soft Map applications are open now and close January 1.
Looking Ahead
Studio Saint-Michel will continue to grow in 2026 with workshops led by additional artists and filmmakers whose practices align with the Studio’s direction in a constellation of offerings that span audio and editing, sculptural approaches, grant writing and development, and other experimental methods: all disciplined, exploratory, and unafraid to stretch the contours of form and process.
Over time, the Studio will expand into a connective space for artists and moving-image artists as a future site for representation, collaboration, and commercial partnerships at an intimate, experimental scale. This is the beginning of that arc.
Additionally, a site-responsive project shaped by film, place, and light is already underway for late 2026. When it's ready, you’ll be the first to receive the signal.
Thank you for being here at the beginning. I can't wait to see what we make together.
Warmest wishes,
Michèle Saint-Michel
